A major step toward sustainable manufacturing
At Chimtitan, we have committed to reducing the environmental footprint of our operations. As part of this effort, we are proud to announce that our solar power plant is now fully installed on the roof and across the grounds of our factory in Chitila, Ilfov County.
Capacity and key figures
The solar installation has a rated capacity of 250 kWp and consists of more than 450 latest-generation solar panels. We expect an annual output of roughly 300 MWh, enough to cover about 35% of the factory's energy consumption.
Environmental impact
Thanks to this investment, we are cutting CO2 emissions by approximately 120 tonnes per year — the equivalent of planting more than 5,000 trees. This builds on our ongoing work to develop low-VOC (volatile organic compound) formulations and to optimise our production processes for lower resource use.
Why this matters to our customers
Investing in renewable energy is not only an environmental responsibility; it is also a competitive advantage:
- Stable production costs — less exposure to the volatile prices of conventional energy
- ESG alignment — we support industrial customers pursuing sustainability targets across their supply chain
- Environmental certifications — reinforcing our position as a responsible, ISO 14001-certified manufacturer
What comes next
This is only the first phase of our sustainability strategy. Over the coming years, we plan to:
- Expand solar capacity to 500 kWp
- Implement a heat-recovery system for our production process
- Switch to packaging made from 100% recyclable materials
- Build out a full range of eco-friendly paints carrying the EU Ecolabel
We firmly believe the paints and coatings industry can — and must — move toward more sustainable practices, and Chimtitan intends to lead that transformation.
If you have questions about our sustainability practices or our range of eco-friendly products, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
